KYIV. June 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The United States will extend Ukraine USD15m in technical assistance in 2004 to implement bilateral cooperation projects in nuclear safety.
This was announced by Richard Raister, office director for the U.S. International Nuclear Safety Program, at a meeting of the organization's Advisory Committee in Kyiv on Tuesday, the PR service of Ukrainian nuclear power utility Energoatom said.
The two countries have achieved great success recently, prolonging several important agreements conducive to a higher level of mutual cooperation in increasing the safety of nuclear plants, Raister said.
The majority of the implemented projects deal with the safety of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, including radiation safety, training staff, physical protection and the qualification of nuclear fuel, said Yuriy Kovrizhkin, first vice president and technical director of Energoatom.
