Munitions disposal at Melitopol base to begin on June 17

ZAPORIZHZHYA. June 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The disposal of munitions in the emergency zone at the munitions depot near Melitopol will begin on Thursday, head of the regional administration's main emergency department Volodymyr Yanko told Interfax.

"The Ukrainian Defense Ministry plans to scrap 95,000 units of munitions, and, presumably, it will take 2-3 weeks," Yanko said.

Commander of the southern operative command post Lieutenant General Hryhory Pedchenko, who is in charge of the munitions disposal operation, declared earlier that exploding unneeded munitions poses absolutely no threat to the inhabitants of nearby settlements.

On May 6, a fire broke out at the munitions depot near Melitopol causing a series of explosions.
