MOSCOW. June 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Australia will give Russia USD7m for nuclear submarine disposal programs.
Because there is no agreement between Russia and Australia on this issue, the funds will be released through the Russian- Japanese committee for the reduction of nuclear weapons, the Federal Atomic Energy Agency told Interfax.
A decision to this effect was signed by Sergei Antipov, the head of the department for decommissioning nuclear and radioactive facilities at the Russian Federal Atomic Energy Agency, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi, and Australian Ambassador to Russia Lesley Adrian Roy on Thursday.
The funds are provided under the Global Partnership program and will be used for disposing of nuclear submarines and the rehabilitation of territories contaminated by radiation, the Federal Atomic Energy Agency said.
