MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Economic sanctions, imposed by Chisinau on Transdnestria, will not promote stabilization of the situation in the region, Andrei Kokoshin, Chairman of the State Duma CIS Affairs Committee, says.
"The sanctions may result in a dangerous escalation of the conflict," Kokoshin told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
According to him, the humanitarian problem, which could be solved to the benefit of both sides, has dangerously been politicized.
"Both Chisinau and Tiraspol can still embrace this approach with regards to schools, teaching Moldovan using Roman alphabet," Kokoshin said.
He noted that the situation once again featured negative consequences of the Moldovan authorities' rejecting the comprehensive plan of managing the Transdnestrian crisis, drawn up with an active participation of Russia, last year.
According to Kokoshin, it was a big mistake on the part of Chisinau. While western politicians, which did their best to block the almost ready political decision, instead of offering their assistance, were also responsible for this mistake.
