Over 70 border guard facilities to be built in North Caucasus in 2004

STAVROPOL. Aug 4 (Interfax-AVN) - In excess of 70 border guard outposts and other infrastructure facilities are to be constructed in the North Caucasus Regional Border Guard Directorate area of responsibility in 2004, the North Caucasus Regional Border Guard Directorate press-service told Interfax- Military News Agency on Wednesday.

"Southern Russia has started realizing the federal program, aimed at equipping the Russian state border. A total of 70 border guard outposts and other infrastructure facilities are to be built in the North Caucasus this year," a press-service official said.

According to him, a total of 26 new border guard bases and garrisons are being constructed at the present time.

"The Border Guard Service authorities ordered solving the problem of providing living quarters to North Caucasus Regional Border Guard Directorate servicemen in the next few years, and well as providing them with social security," the official said.

According to him, in 2004 North Caucasus Regional Border Guard Directorate units were replenished with about 300 graduates of military institutes, colleges, and academies.

"Not a single lieutenant has expressed the wish to resign, while several years ago each tenth graduate of a military college would submit a resignation report on arriving at the unit specified," the official said.
