Checks required on whether rebel groups located in conflict zone - Nabzdorov

MOSCOW/TSKHINVALI. Aug 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Mixed Peacekeeping Force Commander Svyatoslav Nabzdorov proposed that the co- chairman of the Joint Control Commission check if armed groups that have no peacekeeping mandates are located in the Georgian- Ossetian conflict zone.

"The co-chairmen will gather in Tskhinvali for a regular working meeting on Wednesday and I will ask them to make use of our information and visit individual districts to check if rebel groups are located there," Nabzdorov told Interfax-Military News Agency over the telephone Monday.

He said special attention should be paid to the detour motorway around Tskhinvali, and some other areas.

While commenting on the general situation in the conflict zone, Nabzdorov said, "both sides are playing a waiting game."

"Political contacts are possible and the sides are waiting for their outcome," the general said but did not elaborate.

Earlier reports said that Georgian Defense Minister Giorgy Baramidze is expected to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Ivanov in Moscow on Monday.
