TSKHINVALI. Aug 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Small arms and rocket launcher firing was reported in the vicinity of Sarabuk and Damalet in the Tskhinvali district of the self-proclaimed republic of South Ossetia, Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Namestnikov, Chief of Staff, Mixed Peacekeeping Force, told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.
"Peacekeepers report armed clashes in the vicinity of the Ossetian villages of Sarabuk and Damalet and the Georgian village of Kekhvi. Small arms and rocket launchers were fired. No casualties are reported," he said.
According to him, the incident took place in the same region where the escort of Andrey Kokoshin, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for the CIS and relations with compatriots, was attacked.
"MPF officers and observers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe left for the area on Monday morning to investigate the detail of the incident," Namestnikov said.
