Tbilisi wants broader partnership with Russia - Baramidze

MOSCOW. Aug 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian Defense Minister Georgy Baramidze said Tbilisi is prepared to broaden its strategic partnership with Moscow.

"We are ready to broaden strategic partnership relations with Russia. Russia is a huge country and we highly appraise its support in matters of Georgia's integrity," Baramidze told journalists following the talks with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov in Moscow on Tuesday.

"It would be unwise to make an enemy of Georgia. We are prepared to advance towards normalizing relations with Russia and we have a large potential for their development," the Georgian minister said.

The talks with Ivanov considered the current situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Baramidze said.

"We have discussed the situation in the conflict zones and came to the conclusion that neither Russia nor Georgia is interested in instigating conflicts. Russia's sincerity is giving us hope," Baramidze said.
