MOSCOW/TSKHINVALI. Aug 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Another working meeting of the co-chairmen of the Mixed Control Commission for Georgian-Ossetian crisis settlement is likely to be held before end of the week, South Ossetian Special Errands Minister Boris Chochiyev told Interfax-Military News Agency over the telephone Thursday.
"I think the co-chairmen will meet before end of the week," he said.
He added that he is going to discuss the exact date with Georgian Conflict Settlement Minister Georgy Khaindrava, Tbilisi's co-chairman on the staff of the Mixed Control Commission, who has just returned after a two-day visit to Moscow.
Commenting on Tbilisi's suggestion that the region should be demilitarized Chochiyev said "three to four thousand Georgian servicemen are at the borders of South Ossetia now, and their withdrawal is the first thing to speak about. Only 500 peacekeepers should be left, as provided for by the agreements."
He added that the Ossetian side would also have only 500 peacekeepers and law-enforcement servicemen in the conflict zone.
Chochiyev approved of the recent decision by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to increase the number of observers twofold (from 2 to 4) in the Georgian- Ossetian conflict zone. "However, it is not the number, but the quality that matters. Unfortunately, we are forced to admit we are not satisfied with observers' actions now," he said.
