Russian Emergencies Ministry to hold exercise in Maritime territory

MOSCOW. Aug 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Emergencies Ministry will hold a special exercise in the Amur Bay not far from Vladivostok on August 26, a ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

"During the exercise, Emergencies Ministry experts will interact with other ministries and agencies in practicing a rescue operation at a passenger ship 'captured' by terrorists," the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Under the exercise plan, the event will involve operations teams of the Emergencies Ministry's Far Eastern regional center and the Maritime territory's emergencies directorate, as well as forces of the Maritime territory subsystem of the Unified State System of Emergencies Prevention and Liquidation. The search and rescue service and state small vessels inspectorate of the Maritime territory, the 171st detached mixed aviation squadron based in Khavarovsk, the Emergencies Ministry's Moscow aviation force including the latest BE-200ChS amphibious aircraft, and special-purpose units of various ministries and agencies will take part in the exercise, too.

"The main goal of the upcoming exercise is to improve the mechanism of control over involved forces and assets in the process of search for and rescue of the people in the water area, as well as in the process of providing aid to a vessel attacked by terrorists and currently in distress in the sea," the spokesman said.

According to him, the Emergencies Ministry's operations team arrived in Vladivostok early on Wednesday.
