Rebel involved in attacks on police detained outside Grozny

GROZNY. Aug 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen policemen have detained a member of an illegal armed gang who was involved in numerous attacks on police officers.

"A wanted rebel, born in 1985, was detained in the vicinity of the 15th milk state farm in the Grozny rural district during a search operation," the Russian Interior Ministry's provisional press center in the North Caucasus told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

"The search for this bandit, who was involved in numerous attacks on police officers, was in progress for quite a long time, but eventually brought good results. The detainee is giving detailed testimony and naming his accomplices," a press center official said.

According to him, law-enforcers intercepted 18 tonnes of illegally produced diesel fuel on Monday. "A KAMAZ truck with 18 tonnes of diesel fuel and without proper documents for the cargo was detained near the Mekenskaya village in the Naurskaya district. The vehicle was put in a guarded parking lot, and a check was launched," he said.

Law-enforcers examined a total of 3,254 vehicles on Monday. They also registered 13 crimes and detected seven of them hot on the trail.
