MOSCOW. Aug 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Prosecutors have initiated criminal cases on the crashes of two Russian airliners in the Tula and Rostov regions.
"The criminal cases have been opened under Part 3 of Article 263 of the Russian Criminal Code, which deals with breaches of railway, air, or water transport operation safety," a spokesman for the Prosecutor General's Office told Interfax on Wednesday.
Immediately after first reports about the catastrophes were released, Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov dispatched Deputy Prosecutor General Sergei Fridinsky to the Rostov region, and Deputy Prosecutor General Nikolai Savchenko to the Tula region, he said.
Prosecution officials have started to examine the crash sites. The deputy prosecutors general are organizing urgent investigative measures at the scene, he said.
