Army units, Emergencies Ministry rescuers holding exercise near St. Petersburg

ST.PETERSBURG. Aug 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Units of the Leningrad military district and a composite mobile rescue detachment of the Emergencies Ministry are practicing actions in coping with an emergency situation at a large industrial enterprise near St. Petersburg, chief of the district's press service Colonel Yury Klenov said on Wednesday.

"The simulated emergency rescue operation at an economic facility involves units of the district, the 346th rescue center and other formations of the Northwestern regional civil defense and emergencies center, and law-enforcement agencies," Klenov told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"Interaction between rescue services of various bodies is practiced in the framework of a command post exercise in troops control in the Northwestern strategic theater of operations," he said.

District commander Army General Valentin Bobryshev is observing the simulated operation. He is also in charge of the command post exercise.

"Practice in interaction among rescue services of all regional bodies is becoming an important issue due to the threat of terrorist manifestations," Bobryshev told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"In particular, I can praise actions of an operations brigade of the Northwestern Interior Ministry Force district, which acted successfully together with army units during a recent exercise in sealing off and destroying an illegal armed formation," he said.

"In the next few days, several permanent-readiness units of the Leningrad military district will practice planned artillery missions at the district's training grounds," Bobryshev noted.
