KHANKALA. Aug 25 (Interfax-AVN) - A rebel involved in a raid in the Staropromyslovsky district of Grozny on August 21 was detained in the Grozny rural district, regional federal forces spokesman Major General Ilya Shabalkin told Interfax on Wednesday.
The rebel was detained by law enforcement agencies during a search. He confessed to taking part in the bandit raid in Grozny's Staropromyslovsky district with the gang of Yunadi Turchayev, Shabalkin said.
A criminal case has been opened on the raid under articles for murder, terrorism and attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, Shabalkin said.
The suspect has been placed in a detention center and is currently being questioned, he said.
On Tuesday, rebels fired at a polling station in the Shelkovskaya district of Chechnya, Shabalkin said.
"After dark, in the Sary-Su settlement in the Shelkovskaya district, three members of an illegal armed group, wearing camouflage and masks, shot from foliage at a polling station building," he said.
Police officers guarding the building opened fire. One bandit was killed and the rest managed to escape. A Kalashnikov assault rifle and ammunition were found at the scene, Shabalkin said.
Intelligence reports indicate that members of Rasul Tablulatov's illegal armed group committed the crime, Shabalkin said.
A rapid reaction search group is currently identifying the dead rebel's body and searching for other criminals.
During searches and reconnaissance operations in the Staropromyslovsky district, a federal unit discovered a group of four rebels, Shabalkin said. The rebels opened fire, and return fire killed two of them, while two escaped and hid in private houses. Two Kalashnikovs were found at the scene and the dead rebels are being identified, he said.
