Ukrainian inspectors find no violations at Romanian defense facilities

KYIV. Aug 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Ukrainian military controllers have exposed no violations while inspecting the Romanian territory in accordance with the Treaty on the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE), the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday.

"Ukrainian inspectors led by Anatoliy Loishin, deputy chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' verification directorate, inspected three declared control sites. According to the verifiers, Romania properly complies with requirements of the CFE Treaty," a press service official told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The Ukrainians, in particular, checked the 10th and 22nd equipment storage centers and the 96th mixed artillery regiment of the Romanian army.

This year has been very intense for Ukrainian inspectors, the official said. Ukraine's passive quota under the CFE Treaty is 16 inspections, nine observer missions are planned under the Open Skies Treaty, and three more inspections and two evaluative visits under the 1999 Vienna Document. In addition, Ukraine is up to 10 control measures under bilateral agreements in connection with additional trust and security measures in border areas. At the same time, Ukraine is entitled to the same number of inspections on the territory of neighboring countries and nations with a high defense potential.
