Nothing untoward in Putin's meeting with Abkhaz leaders - Kremlin official

MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax-AVN) - Because Russia has a major constructive role to play in resolving the Abkhaz situation there was nothing out of the ordinary in President Vladimir Putin's meeting a few days ago with Abkhaz leader, a senior Kremlin official told Interfax on Monday.

"Russian officials, some of them holding very high positions, have been holding regular meetings with Abkhaz leaders, he said.

Commenting on remarks made by Georgian parliament chairperson Nino Bujanadze, the official said: "Mrs. Bujanadze should have remembered that one such meeting with then Abkhaz prime minister was held in Sochi with the former Georgian president in attendance."

In effect, there is nothing unusual in the short talk that Putin had with the Abkhaz prime minister the other day, the official said.

"Russia will do its utmost to support World War Two veterans everywhere," he said.
