Russia reopens border with Georgia

MOSCOW. Sept 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has reopened its border with Georgia after closing it in the wake of Wednesday's seizure by an armed group of a school in the Russian region of North Ossetia, which borders Georgia and Chechnya, Russian border guard spokesman said on Thursday.

"Border control and formalities for individuals and motor vehicles are being carried out the normal way," the spokesman told Interfax.

On Wednesday, the border guard said travel across the Russian-Georgian border in both directions had been suspended "pending a special order."

Federal Security Service (FSB) spokesman Vadim Shibayev told Interfax this was part of "a set of security measures" launched after hundreds of people were taken hostage in a school in the North Ossetian town of Beslan.
