Georgia reinforces N. Ossetian stretch of border with Russia

TBILISI. Sept 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgia's State Border Guard Department has tightened security measures on the North Ossetian stretch of the border with Russia.

"This decision has been made in connection with the recent events in Beslan and on the basis of the latest intelligence," Kornely Salia, chief of staff of the State Border Guard Department, told Interfax on Monday.

He declined to comment on the intelligence available to the State Border Guard Department, which led to the decision to reinforce the border "for official reasons."

He said that the State Border Guard Department is maintaining regular contacts with the North Caucasus Border Guard Department of Russia's Federal Security Service.

"I personally remain in touch with my Russian colleagues," Salia said.
