TBILISI. Sept 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The right-wing parliamentary opposition demands that Georgian authorities take the political responsibility for the recent events in the Tskhinvali region.
Leader of the right-wing opposition David Gamkrelidze said at a Monday briefing that this issue would be included in the agenda of the very first meeting of the fall parliamentary session.
"We intend to ask the government ten question, and demand that it provides comprehensive and thorough responds," he said.
According to Gamkrelidze, the opposition wonders how many people have really died in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict area in the past few weeks. It also wants to know the reasons for escalating tensions in the Tskhinvali region, and the effects of the tensions on incoming investments and the economy, as well as the cost of the campaign.
The oppositions also wonders why Russian forces retain the status of peacekeepers, since official Tbilisi considers Russia a party concerned, who conducts combat operations in the conflict area - the Georgian Interior Ministry Forces or the Armed Forces, and if the latter does - has it obtained a parliamentary permission," Gamkrelidze said.
"The government will have to answer the main question - whether it has worked out a strategy and a plan for restoring the national territorial integrity," he emphasized.
Gamkrelidze said that on Tuesday he would submit the ten questions to Parliament Chairwoman Nino Burjanadze, so that she might hand them over to the government and include them in the agenda.
