Russia's 21 facilities will be handed over to Georgia

TBILISI. Sept 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry on Friday will hand over to the Georgian military 21 facilities, including a laundry, a newspaper editorial office and arms depots that previously belonged to Russian forces based in Transcaucasia.

These facilities have not been used by the Russian military force in the Transcaucasia, Colonel Vladimir Kuparadze, spokesman for the force headquarters, told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"The facilities slated for hand-over include a laundry in Tbilisi, various warehouses, the editorial office of the Zakavkazskiye Voyennye Vedomosti (Transcaucasia Military News) newspaper, which stopped being published in May 2004, a printing house, and other facilities," Kuparadze said.

He denied Georgian media reports that these facilities include Tbilisi's tank repairing plant and various repairing workshops. "This will not happen now," he said.

Several other military facilities located in the autonomous republic of Ajaria and in the town of Akhalkalaki, including a sanatorium in Kobuleti and holdings, will be handed over to Georgia on September 15 and 16.

"The transfer of these facilities was initiated by the Russian party in accordance with the agreements achieved at the talks between the Russian and Georgian defense ministers in Moscow on August 11," Kuparadze said.
