North Caucasus-based unit launches Tochka missile during exercise

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Sept 10 (Interfax-AVN) - A missile unit of the North Caucasus Military District has successfully finished the exercise with live firing of the Tochka tactical missile.

"The exercise lasted four days at the Kapustin Yar firing range in the Astrakhan region and finished Friday with the Tochka missile launched," Colonel Igor Konashenkov, the district's press service chief, told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The exercise was aimed to refine the skills of alerting the units, and some others, he said.

The maneuvers were held in close-to-real situation: the servicemen were changing launch sites and performed marches, the spokesman said.

"Tochka missiles are launched once every two years," he added.
