STAVROPOL. Sept 13 (Interfax-AVN) - A 55-year-old Muscovite tried to smuggle two assault rifles, a pistol, a rifle barrel and about 200 rounds through the state border on his way back from Georgia.
"The man was apprehended when he was trying to go through the check-point of Veseloye-Avtodorozhnoye on the Abkhaz part of the Russian-Georgian border," Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Livantsov, Chief of the press service of the North Caucasus Regional Border Guard Directorate of the Federal Security Service, told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.
"The man and his baggage were hand over to the police," he said.
He added that about 300 people were prevented from passing the state border on different reasons during the weekend.
According to the press service, the border guards of the North Caucasus Directorate have apprehended over 750 trespassers since the beginning of the year. They seized 25 kg of explosives, over 20 pieces of small arms and over 8,500 rounds.
Also, they seized over 35.6 million Russian rubles ($1.22 million) worth of smuggled goods.
