MOSCOW. Sept 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said a Special Federal Commission for the North Caucasus will be established.
Putin told an expanded Cabinet meeting on Monday that this commission will be led by Dmitri Kozak, who was appointed presidential envoy in the Southern Federal District on the same day.
The commission will be given "broad powers to coordinate the work of various federal agencies in the North Caucasus, and, in individual instances, to coordinate the law-enforcement agencies' actions," Putin said.
He said if immediate response to terrorist actions is required, the commission will make decision in the security sphere.
"The commission's main task is to achieve tangible results in enhancing living standards in the North Caucasus," the Russian president said.
