Novorossiysk hosts 7th Airborne Division command post exercise

MOSCOW. Sept 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Novorossiysk is hosting the five-day command post exercise (CPX), conducted by units of the 7th Airborne Division.

"The active phase of the CPX, conducted by the 7th Airborne Division and supervised by Lieutenant General Valery Evtukhovich, has started in Novorossiysk on Wednesday," Lieutenant General Alexander Kolmakov, Russian Airborne Forces Commander, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

He noted the CPX was aimed at refining command and control, as well as cooperation between the divisional headquarters and Army units, defending the coastline.

At the same time, the major emphasis is put on commanders' and headquarters' activities in wartime, and combat teamwork of divisional command and control bodies and units of the North Caucasus Military District," he said.

He also noted that a divisional unit would be airdropped within the framework of the CPX. "It will not be a large-scale airdrop, and combat materiel will not be airdropped. In this particular case, a unit will be airdropped just to demonstrate an airborne operation," he emphasized.

Kolmakov stressed that the CPX was also aimed at refining anti-terror operations. "Each stage of the CPX envisions anti-terror, and military and administrative facilities security and defense operations," he said.

The five-day CPX, conducted by the 7th Airborne Army, started on Tuesday.
