Russian Air Force Deputy Commander-in-Chief submits his resignation

MOSCOW. Sept 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Lieutenant General Dmitry Morozov, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air Force for Armament, has submitted his resignation, the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

"General Morozov has submitted his resignation and is currently in a Defense Ministry hospital," a source said.

According to him, Morozov's resignation may be linked to the results of the Judge Advocate General's Office's inspection, which has unearthed that a number of Air Force officials violated federal property laws.

"It has been determined that the Air Force keeps on embezzling material resources and funds, as well as refusing to pay damages, the amount of which has totaled over $34 million since 2001," the source said.

"In this light, Morozov proper and his subordinates have to answer lots of questions, pertaining to economic interests of the Defense Ministry," the source said.

He also noted that judge advocates had also emphasized the fact that in 2003 the Air Force Non-Budget Economic Assistance Fund, employing Morozov's subordinates, transferred about 80 million Russian roubles ($2.74 million) to the authorized capital of one of commercial banks, where Morozov's son is a co-founder.
