KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The Ukrainian Air Force launched air-to-air missiles on the Black Sea on Wednesday.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry press-service told Interfax-Military News Agency that the exercise was headed by Lieutenant General Yaroslav Skalko, Ukrainian Air Force Commander-in-Chief.
The launches were carried out within the framework of training fighter flight personnel for combat duty as part of the Ukrainian Air Defense System. The launches saw participation of almost 40 pilots, flying SU-27 Flanker and MIG-29 Fulcrum fighters. Illumination bombs were used as air targets.
Such launches have recently been limited due to fuel shortages in Air Force units, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry press-service said.
The exercise will last until Friday.
