KHANKALA. Sept 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Two men were killed in the mountains in southern Chechnya while planting a landmine, federal forces spokesman Major General Ilya Shabalkin told Interfax on Tuesday.
There was a powerful explosion on the road to Guchum-Kale in the Itum-Kale district on Monday, he said. Federal troops who arrived to examine the scene discovered the remains of two bodies, parts of an explosive device, and a foreign-made radio.
Villagers helped to identify one of the bombers as a local resident, Shabalkin said. The man had long belonged to the group of Tarkhan Gaziyev, which has been staging acts of terrorism in Itum-Kale and Shatoi districts, he said.
