Bryansk plant disposing of railway-based missile launcher

MOSCOW. Sept 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The Bryansk central repair plant of the Strategic Missile Forces has started to dispose of a railway-based missile launcher, a source in the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

"Disposal of the next railway-based missile launcher written off from the Strategic Missile Forces has begun in Bryansk," the source said.

The Bryansk plant disposes off railway-based launchers whose service life has expired. Their scrapping goes in line with the START treaty under control of a U.S. inspection team.

"All the procedures related to the launcher's destruction are to be over on October 1," the source said.

Only the launcher components responsible for its combat use are being destroyed, he noted. The remaining materials and equipment of dual purpose will be used in the interests of other ministries and agencies.

The Bryansk plant has disposed of 13 railway-based missile launchers since 2002.
