MOSCOW. Sept 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Army General Nikolai Kormiltsev is vacating the post of commander-in-chief of Russia's Land Forces, a Russian Defense Ministry source told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.
"General Kormiltsev has handed in his letter of resignation from military service, and he is currently undergoing a medical examination at a military hospital," one of the sources said.
Land Forces chief of staff Colonel General Alexander Morozov has been appointed acting Land Forces commander-in-chief, he said.
Kormiltsev was appointed Land Forces commander-in-chief on March 28, 2001.
No official confirmation that Kormiltsev has handed in his letter of resignation and is vacating the post of Russian Land Forces commander-in-chief has been received by Interfax-AVN yet.
