2005 national security spending to make up 5% of GDP

MOSCOW. Sept 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal budget spending for national security, defense and law enforcement for 2005 will grow by 17.6% in real terms and will make up 5% of the GDP, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov said at the State Duma meeting on Wednesday.

"This is quite a serious spending growth for these fields," said Zhukov.

From the 2005 budget, it is planned to allocate resources for a housing mortgage system for military personnel and also for changing military benefits into actual money.

Zhukov said that the government plans to introduce budget changes for the 2004 budget to the State Duma at the end of October.

"Changes in the budget will allow to resolve national security issues and will finance the defense order," said Zhukov.
