MOSCOW. Oct 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's share in the international science-intensive product market amounts to only 0.3%.
"While having vast scientific resources, comprising 12% of the world's scientists, Russia has secured only 0.3% of the international hi-tech market. For instance, the U.S. enjoys 36%, while Japan 30%," Yury Borisov, head of the Radio-Electronics Industry Directorate of the Federal Industry Agency, who participated in the forum on problems of the Russian electronics industry this week, told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The forum has been conducted within the framework of the international show "Electronics. Components. Equipment. Technologies", drawing up to an end in Moscow on Thursday.
According to Borisov, the annual machine tools and equipment exports from Russia are 6.5-fold inferior to those from South Korea, 5.5-fold inferior to those from Malaysia, and 2.5-fold from Thailand.
According to him, the practical realization rate of scientific researches in Russia is very low. Russia realizes only 1% of research and development projects, while the U.S., Great Britain, and other developed countries realize up to 70% of such projects.
According to Borisov, in 2003 electronics industry enterprises directed 48.2% of their expenditures on research and development, 10.4% on procuring equipment, and 3.2% on procuring new technologies. "However, research and development do not always correspond to the later commercial realization," he said.
