Moscow to host Russia-NATO courses in operational compatibility

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax-AVN) - The NATO school in Oberammergau, Germany, will hold first joint Russian-NATO courses in operational compatibility in Moscow military academies from October 11 to 22, the NATO Information Bureau in Moscow reported on Friday.

The courses are aimed at providing a broad range of Russian officers who have been trained in various educational establishments with a more in-depth outlook at NATO, including its structure, functions and operation, the report reads.

Russian officers will also be briefed on NATO operations "in emergency civil planning and crisis management," the report says.

One of the courses will take place at the General Staff Academy from October 11 to 15, and the other at the Joint-Arms Academy from October 18 to 22.

The courses are components of a special program finalized by the chiefs-of-staff in the NATO-Russia Council framework in November 2003, the report reads.
