TBILISI. Oct 15 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian military force in Transcaucasia resumed live firing at the Gonio training ground in Georgia due to the summer training period's final check, Colonel Vladimir Kuparadze, spokesman for the force headquarters, said on Friday.
"In the framework of the final check of the summer training period's results, the personnel of the 12th Russian military base performed live firing of small arms at the Gonio training ground," Kuparadze told Interfax-Military News Agency by phone from Tbilisi. He stressed that "the Russian party met the Georgian leadership's request and did not hold live firing there during the holiday season."
The final check at the 12th base will end on Saturday, Kuparadze said. "Major General Alexander Studenikin, commander of the Russian military force in Transcaucasia, will sum up official results of the check, but we can already say judging by early results that the base's combat readiness will be evaluated as satisfactory," he noted.
"The situation around the base and the attitude towards Russian military in Abkhazia is normal," Kuparadze stressed.
Studenikin and accompanying officials will leave to check the 62nd Russian military base in the Georgian village of Akhalkalaki on Sunday.
