Part of Stabilization Fund to be used for commercial aviation development

MOSCOW. Oct 15 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Minister for Industry and Energy thinks it is necessary to use part of the Russian Stabilization Fund for the development of commercial aviation, and in particular for the Russian Regional Jet program of the Sukhoi company.

"The Russian Ministry for Industry and Energy thinks that part of the Russian Stabilization fund should be earmarked for the federal program on commercial aviation development," said Andrei Dementiev, head of the department for structural and investment policy of the Ministry of Industry and Energy.

The federal program provides for the development of the new Russian Regional Jet family. Taking into account the assets to be allocated under the program, the project will require another $250 million from the budget, reads the press release of the ministry's public relations department received by Interfax-Military News Agency Friday.

It quotes Viktor Khristenko, Minister for Industry and Energy, as saying that the Stabilization Fund should be used to guarantee funding of the project throughout its whole life.

"The aircraft building of today is concerned with developing fifth generation planes, and breakthrough projects in commercial aviation planned for five years and more. In case of insufficient funding under is provided for the projects, they may be frozen and even terminated, " reads the press release.
