MOSCOW. Oct 18 (Interfax-AVN) - A Russian Foreign Ministry official denied a Georgian Foreign Ministry statement alleging that Russia has brought a special commando unit and also volunteers from the so-called Confederation of Caucasus Peoples to the Georgian breakaway territory of Abkhazia.
"There has been no formation of Russian commandos or paratroopers at the Abkhaz segment of the Russian border or in Abkhazia itself. Such statements based on rumors attributed to some intelligence sources absolutely do not reflect the reality," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said in reply to a question from journalists.
