Expedition 10 has two space walks on schedule

MOSCOW. Oct 18 (Interfax-AVN) - Two space walks are on the agenda of the Expedition 10 that arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) October 16.

"During the first space walk, astronauts will mount antennae and cameras on external surfaces of the ISS, and take inside some results of experiments conducted in the open space," Valery Lyndin, chief of the Russian Mission Control Center press service, told Interfax.

Some other antennae and equipment will be mounted to ensure docking of the Joules Verne cargo ship of the ATV series during the second space walk. The crew will also dismount some other results of experiments from the ISS surface.

Lyndin added that a TV-camera would be also installed during the second space walk to watch the spacecraft approaching the station and control docking procedures.

The astronauts will wear Russian Orlan-M environmental suites in both space walks.

"The dates have not been specified for the space walks yet, but they will surely take place in 2005," he said.

Expedition 10 including Salizhan Sharipov, U.S. Leroy Chiao and Yury Shargin of the Russian Space Forces arrived at the ISS early on October 16. Docking was conducted manually. The new crew will replace Gennady Padalka and Michael Fincke who stayed in orbit for half a year.
