Salyut to manufacture fewer D-426 engine sets than planned in 2004

MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax-AVN) - The Moscow Salyut Engineering Industrial Enterprise will deliver almost two-fold fewer D-426 aircraft engine sets than planned in 2004, a source in the Salyut Enterprise told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

"The D-436 units and assemblies production plan has been revised due to a decrease in demand for aircraft engines of this type among Russian aircraft manufacturers," the source said.

He noted that Russia and Ukraine produced three versions of the D-436 engine: the D-436T1 engine for TU-334 passenger airliners; the D-436TP for BE-200 amphibious aircraft; and the D-436-148 for AN-148 passenger airliners. The Ufa Engine-Building Production Association (UMPO) is Russia's flagship D-436TP manufacturer. In Ukraine D-436-type engines are assembled by the Zaporizhzhya-based Motor Sich Company.

"Salyut participates in cooperation deliveries of certain units and assemblies to Ufa- and Zaporizhzhya-based plants," the source said.

According to him, the greatest decrease in demand for power plants holds true for the TU-334 program, undertaken by the MIG Corporation.

"The plans envisioned delivering 34 sets of D-436T1/TP units and assemblies to Zaporizhzhya and Ufa in 2004. However, the real demand will amount to only 14-16 power plants," the source said.

According to him, Salyut has shipped off a total of eight D-436T1 sets to be mounted on TU-334 aircraft and six D-436TP sets to be mounted on BE-200 amphibious aircraft to Ukraine. In addition to that, it has also shipped off two D-435-148 sets to be mounted on AN-148 aircraft.
