PLESETSK, Arkhangelsk Region. Nov 2 (Interfax-AVN) - The RS-12M Topol (SS-25) intercontinental ballistic missile launched from the Plesetsk space center in northern Russia on Tuesday hit its target in the Kura firing range in the Far East, the press service of the Strategic Missile Forces told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"The mock warhead of the missile that took off from Plesetsk hit the target on the firing range in Kamchatka with the planned accuracy," a spokesman said.
The flight was continuously monitored by missile tracking systems and ground control, the press service said.
The purpose of the launch was to confirm the main flight and technical parameters of missiles with an extended service life. The missile, manufactured in 1985, has been on duty with the Strategic Missile Forces. Its service life has been almost doubled.
The press service said the launch was a comprehensive test allowing for a full evaluation of the technical condition, reliability and combat preparedness of the missile.
"The ICBM test launch confirmed the readiness of missiles of this type to perform combat tasks even during an expanded service life," a spokesman said.
