Georgian air defense units to hold exercise

TBILISI. Nov 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian air defense forces will hold a four-day flight and tactical exercise at the Kulevi military training ground near the town of Poti in late November, Brigadier General Amiran Salukvadze, commander of the forces, said on Tuesday.

"The exercise will involve aviation, namely four SU-25 Frogfoot attack planes and two MI-24 Hind helicopters, as well as military hardware required for their servicing," Salukvadze told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Work on ensuring security of Georgian air space has been escalated this year, he said. Georgia is planning to start developing a national airspace control center before the end of 2004.

This is a long-term project, and its first phase covers a period until 2008, Salukvadze stressed.
