ST. PETERSBURG. Nov 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Mobile pioneer teams of the Leningrad Military District demined 23 explosive remains of war (ERW) in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region in October.
"The pioneers took away and blasted at specialized ranges 11 artillery rounds, 11 mortar shells, nine bombs, 68 hand grenades and 578 other explosive objects," Lieutenant Colonel Georgy Vladimirov, Leningrad Military District headquarters officer for mine-clearing, told Interfax-Military News Agency Tuesday.
He added that the number of incidents reduced considerably at the beginning of the autumn as compared to summer. "The trend will be observed till spring," he said.
He added that one mobile pioneer team is on round-the-clock duty in St. Petersburg.
