TBILISI. Nov 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Two Georgian army special operations companies consisting of 300 soldiers left for Iraq on Monday as part of plans to bring the nation's peacekeeping contingent to 850 in January.
Georgian Defense Minister Giorgi Baramidze, at a Monday farewell ceremony at Alexeyevka military airfield, said the peacekeepers will primarily be involved in ensuring the security of the UN mission in Iraq.
At the moment, 159 Georgian soldiers are serving in Iraq.
