ASTANA. Nov 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Lieutenant General Lance L. Smith, Deputy Commander, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), arrived in Astana for a two-day visit on Monday, the Kazakh Defense Ministry said in a release.
Smith met with Kazakh Defense Minister Mukhtar Altynbayev later in the day, the release reads.
The two officials discussed the state and prospects of bilateral military cooperation, as well as regional security and measures against international terrorism.
According to the release, the U.S. general praised the Kazakh servicemen who accomplish humanitarian missions as part of the coalition forces in Iraq.
The one-on-one meeting was followed by talks between the Kazakh and U.S. military delegations, the release reads.
While staying in Astana, the U.S. delegation will visit the Kazakh National Defense University, meet with its cadets and with members of the Defense Ministry Cadet Corps.
