CHERKESSK. Nov 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Updated information indicates that eight people, among them six policemen and two civilian young men, suffered injuries in riots near the Karachayevo-Cherkesian government compound on Tuesday, a source with the Karachayevo-Cherkessian law enforcement agencies told Interfax.
All these people have been taken to the hospital, the source said.
The source denied reports by a number of media outlets alleging that some of those injured died in the hospital. "Most of them are in stable condition, but some in serious. Most policemen suffered craniocerebral injuries, and they have been taken chiefly to the neuro-surgical department of the republic's central hospital," the source said.
Describing the situation in Cherkessk at 6:30 p.m. Moscow time (1530 GMT), the source said, "The situation didn't change. Up to 40 relatives of the seven killed young men are in the government premises. About 1,000 people are on the square near the government compound," he said.
Deputy Russian Prosecutor General for the Southern Federal District Nikolai Shepel is meeting with the rallying crowd. "There was no orders to disperse the rally or arrest the people who seized the office of the Karachayevo-Cherkessian president," the source said.
