Russia destroying chemical weapons under OPCW control - official

MOSCOW. Nov 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Destruction of Russia's chemical weapons stockpiles is controlled by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Viktor Kholstov, deputy head of the Federal Industry Agency, said on Wednesday.

OPCW international inspection teams exercise the controls, Kholstov told a Moscow-based dialogue and forum entitled "Russia's Compliance with Chemical Weapons Prohibition Convention."

"Seven inspection teams (numbering seven to eight inspectors each) have worked at chemical weapons storage facilities in 2004. One team of five inspectors stays permanently at the chemical weapons destruction facility in the village of Gorny in the Saratov region. All members of the team are replaced once in six weeks," Kholstov said.
