Afghan border section to be transferred to Tajik control

DUSHANBE. Nov 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Tajik and Russian border guards are engaged in talks on ways to transfer the Pamir section of the Tajik-Afghan border to the control of Tajikistan's border guard service.

"We are not discussing the timeframe. This is a decided matter. What we are discussing now is how the Russian Federal Security Service's (FSB) border service will transfer the Pamir sector of the border to the control of the Tajik border guard committee," a source in the Tajik committee told Interfax on Wednesday.

FSB border service deputy head Alexander Manilov is expected to arrive in Dushanbe, the source said. "He might possibly attend the transfer ceremony," he said.

"Negotiations are currently in progress at the commission level to reach an agreement on ways to transfer the Pamir border section," the press service for the FSB border service's branch for Tajikistan told Interfax.

"The Ishkashim, Khorog and Kalai-Khumb border guard units with their infrastructure will be handed over to Tajikistan," the press service said.

"All Tajik soldiers who are serving in Russian border guard units will continue their service in the Tajik government's border guard committee," the press service said.
