Russian defense minister starts working trip to North Caucasus military district

MOSCOW. Nov 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov flew from Moscow to the North Caucasus military district on Thursday, Colonel Vyacheslav Sedov, chief of the Defense Ministry's press service, told Interfax-Military News Agency.

During the two-day working trip, the defense minister will visit several units of the district to check progress in construction of facilities under the federal purpose-oriented program of transition to contracted service, Sedov said.

Ivanov will also attend a session of the North Caucasus military district council in Rostov-on-Don. District commander Army General Alexander Baranov will report to Ivanov on the completion of the training year in subordinate units and on their combat readiness.
