New chief-of-staff appointed to North Caucasus military district

MOSCOW. Nov 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Lieutenant General Alexander Postnikov-Streltsov has been appointed chief-of-staff and first deputy commander of the North Caucasus military district, a Defense Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

Postnikov-Streltsov, who previously served as commander of the 20th joint-arms army, replaced Colonel General Alexei Maslov, who had been appointed commander-in-chief of the Russian Land Forces, the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Postnikov-Streltsov was born in the Krasnodar territory in 1957. He graduated from the Kyiv higher joint-arms command college and the Frunze Military Academy. He has held various positions in the Land Forces, including in the Soviet Army Force in Germany, the Odesa, Far Eastern and Moscow military districts. He became commander of the 20th joint-arms army (headquartered in Voronezh) in August 2002.
