MOSCOW. Nov 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The Fazotron-NIIR Corporation has presented a Kopyo state-of-the-art airborne radar to the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) for training its students, Vyacheslav Rogov, the corporation's deputy director general, told Interfax-Military News Agency Friday.
"An up-to-date Kopyo radar and a work station were handed over to the Airborne Radar Systems Department of the Moscow Aviation Institute for educational purposes," he said.
According to him, Kopyo is the baseline configuration of the whole family of airborne radars, developed and manufactured by Fazotron-NIIR. The present is a form of cooperation of the corporation with the educational establishment, which is aimed at increasing the skills and educational level of future aviation specialists.
"About 100 versions of Kopyo have been delivered to India for the modernized MIG-21BIS fighters of the Indian Air Force," he added.
He also said that Kopyo is the main element of the weapons control system of the modernized MIG-21BIS UPG, code-named Bison in India. The radar improved the combat effectiveness of the aircraft in terms of different specifications two to six times.
According to Rogov, it was MIG-21BIS UPG fighters that beat F-15C, Mirage 2000 and other up-to-date aircraft in 75 percent of training dogfights during a recent exercise in India.
