Arab mercenary base destroyed in Chechnya

KHANKALA. Nov 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Law enforcement agencies have wiped out a base of Arab mercenaries near Serzhen-Yurt in Chechnya's Shali district, spokesman for the federal forces in the North Caucasus Major General Ilya Shabalkin told Interfax on November 13.

"The base consisted of three dugouts, each of them designed to accommodate 5 people, and also two lying positions equipped for surveying approaches to the base. The installations were destroyed by an explosion," Shabalkin said.

The law enforcers found a homemade explosive device, military equipment, household stuff, food, medicines, and extremist literature while searching the base, he said.

Shabalkin claimed the base belonged to Arab mercenaries.
