VILNIUS. Nov 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Norway handed over a batch of short-range air defense systems to Lithuania on Monday, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry's press service told Interfax.
The transfer ceremony took place at the stationing area of a Lithuanian air defense battalion near Siauliai, a press service official said. The battalion received 21 new RBS-70 launchers, Mk-1 missiles, five simulators, five Giraffe IV radars, and spare parts.
RBS-70 is an air defense missile system fitted with radars, launchers and missile control systems. It can detect and hit aerial targets at a distance of up to 8 km.
The systems will be used for protecting the Ingalina nuclear power plant and other strategic facilities.
The batch transferred by Norway costs a total of 135 million litai ($50.65 million).
